UHN TRANSPLANT

AJMERA TRANSPLANT CENTRE

Transplantation is often referred to as a miracle of modern medical science.

For the Ajmera Transplant Centre at UHN, the miracle is in the dramatic ways in which lives are transformed. After a transplant, patients who were on the verge of death one day are healthy and vibrant the next.

We’ve perfected the “traditional” transplant as we know it, even for the most complex cases.

Our world-renowned team, fuelled by our ongoing pursuit of knowledge, cares for the sickest of the sick. Patients with the most complex and advanced organ damage are often referred here from across the country. And they want to be treated here – because we have the life-saving expertise they need, and because we are committed to ongoing follow-up long after the transplant is completed, building relationships for life with our patients.

What we’ve achieved as a team to date is incredible, but it’s not enough. There are still many people suffering from disease and organ failure.

There’s more work to be done. More lives to be saved.

MORE PEOPLE WHO NEED OUR HELP TO LIVE ON.

CENTRE FOR LIVING ORGAN DONATION

Diabetes, kidney disease and liver cancer are just a few of the chronic illnesses that disrupt the lives of millions of Canadians. For many, the organ damage is irreversible and a transplant becomes their only hope for a second chance at life.

The biggest challenge in transplantation is the lack of donor organs. With transplant wait lists growing, living organ donation is critical to bridging this gap. Living organ donation is when an individual selflessly donates a kidney or a portion of his or her liver to save and transform the life of someone with organ failure. The benefits are enormous. Living donor transplantation shortens wait times for organs and helps people live longer and healthier lives compared with other treatments.

A global beacon for gold standard care, the Centre for Living Organ Donation at TGH is the first centre in Canada to care for living organ donors – for life.
